The Aromas-San Juan Unified School District Board of Trustees needs Jeff Hancock. He did ruffle feathers when he informed the previous board and the previous superintendent in 2006 that the district was deficit spending. He also objected to the fixed three-year pay raises for administrators. His position was validated in 2007 when the FCMAT team confirmed that the District’s budget was in the red. Then California’s economic crisis hit in 2008, and the state almost took over the district. Mr. Hancock served as the board president in 2009 and helped avoid a state take-over. Even after the prior superintendent retired leaving he and the present board to hire a new superintendent and two new principals, he came through.

He also stepped on toes when he kept asking the prior board members to give up their benefits so district employees would not be fired. Last year he was successful in getting the present board to give up all benefits saving the job of at least one teacher.

I served with Jeff on the Anzar High Football Exploratory Committee. He was an ardent voice for making sure everyone could express their point of view.

He has spent countless hours on district business, serving on the budget committee, negotiating committees, and host of other district projects. Jeff has community support within the district precisely because he puts the children’s interest before all others. It has been my experience that Jeff is honest, effective, and an articulate advocate for fiscal responsibility and or children’s education.

I’d urge all that read this letter to vote for Jeff Hancock on November 2, 2010. The district and especially our children, need Jeff to ask the hard questions and provide effective oversight.
