Visiting Spartans, Wildcatz no match for San Benito

The San Benito High boys tennis team took care of business in two Tri-County Athletic League matches this week, defeating both Watsonville and Seaside by sweeping 7-0 margins at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.
The ‘Balers are now 7-2 in the TCAL.
San Benito’s meet with Watsonville on Tuesday only saw one match go to a third-set tiebreaker. At No. 4 singles, ‘Baler Austin Pan defeated Miguel Sanchez 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
Otherwise, San Benito won each of the remaining matches in straight sets, with the Wildcatz only compiling 18 points to the ‘Balers’ 72.
Top singles player Derek Panger downed Watsonville’s Jose Martinez 6-0, 6-2, while Mark Tobias followed suit with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Sandro Renteria. San Benito’s No. 3 singles player Kyle Skinner defeated Juan Lopez 6-2, 6-1.
No. 1 pairing Jon Rudolfs and Tony Culler passed Ivan Hernandez and Josh Pitt by a 6-2, 6-1 margin; Josh Greenwood and Mike Jensen upended Watsonville’s No. 2 team of Ivo Basor and Jorge Medrano 6-3, 6-3; and San Benito’s Thomas Parcell and Connor Bray downed Alvaro Liel and Austin Cojcoda 6-1, 6-1.
On Wednesday against a visiting Seaside squad, the ‘Balers delivered an even more convincing win, holding the Spartans to just eight set points.
In singles, Derek Panger defeated Seaside’s Joshua Joson 6-1, 6-1; Mark Tobias topped Daniel Kim 6-0, 6-0; Kyle Skinner downed Tien Nguyen 6-1, 6-1; and Austin Pan cruised past Dan Le 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, Jon Rudolfs and Mike Jensen beat Dexter Inopiquez and Timmy Do 6-2, 6-0; Tony Culler and Connor Bray defeated Vinh Troung and Omar Delacruz 6-0, 6-1; and Josh Greenwood and Thomas Parcell silenced Johnny Cho and Tyler Kuwatani 6-0, 6-0.
San Benito will return to the court against Gilroy Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club at 3:30 p.m.
