Hollister – Members of the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation are planning for the celebration of the hospital’s 100th year, which will take place in November.

The foundation will be celebrating the centennial of the hospital with a gala event planned for Nov. 2. Organizers hope to raise $100,000, and are seeking individual and corporate sponsors for the event.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Foundation Director Leah Dowty said. “It’s a celebration of 100 years in the community and it’s also a fundraising opportunity.”

The event will be a dinner and dance, and will honor individuals for their support of the hospital and its district.

Mary McCullough will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for her service to the hospital. She has worked as a volunteer at Hazel Hawkins for 45 years and will be honored along with her husband, Gerald McCullough, for their financial support of the hospital.

Tickets for the event will not be available until September. But the hospital’s foundation members are encouraging people and businesses from the community to show their support through financial sponsorship.

The money raised will go toward paying for the event, and toward the hospital’s new emergency department, which is set to break ground this summer. The money will help pay for those parts of the department not paid for through Measure L funding.

So far, the hospital foundation has raised $30,000. Dowty said organizers hope to at least reach $50,000 before November, and raise the other half at the event.
