With the loss of the Hollister Redevelopment Agency came a $65,000 annual hole for the Hollister Downtown Association. On Sept. 15, at an inaugural fundraiser, the organization hopes to recoup a chunk of the money.
The RDA before its state-ordered demise earlier this year had funded $65,000 to the business advocacy group. To fill some of the gap, the HDA has scheduled its “Concert on the Range” fundraiser for Sept. 15 at Ridgemark Golf & Country Club that will feature the “Journey” tribute band “Evolution” – well known in the Bay Area and winners in 2006 and 2007 of the San Francisco Bay Area “Last Band Standing” contest sponsored by KFOX radio, as touted by the HDA leading up to the event.
HDA Executive Director Brenda Weatherly pointed out that the tribute band has a multi-generational draw and the fundraiser is family-friendly, with the event area planned for the driving range.
She noted that the HDA is a nonprofit without the limitless opportunities others groups might have, making it more difficult to obtain outside funding. The organization’s goal with the additional fundraising is to continue on with its showcase events – such as the Downtown Street Festival, Lights On Celebration and the Downtown Hollister Farmers Market – while trying to add other activities.
“We’re hoping this will help us fill that gap and enable us to keep going next year,” Weatherly said.
While Ridgemark Golf & Country Club, an HDA member, offers a unique setting and the driving range opportunity, the HDA had difficulty this year finding a downtown location that worked out logistically, she said.
As for event details, the gates open at noon. “Evolution” starts at 2 p.m. and will finish around 4 p.m. Attendees can buy wine, beer and food in the event area, while no pets are allowed. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under.
