A major-injury accident occurred in Aromas on Saturday morning, according to Calfire.
At about 7 a.m. Saturday, emergency personnel responded to a head-on traffic accident at Riverside and Vannoni roads in the Santa Cruz County portion of Aromas.
State and local firefighters responded and found two vehicles and four injury victims. Calfire reported that one person had major injuries, two had moderate injuries and one had minor injuries, according to a statement released over the weekend.
According to Calfire: “Firefighters had to extricate the solo driver of one vehicle by using specialized tools to cut open the vehicle and rescue the patient. The remaining three patients were in the other vehicle, which did not require extrication. All four patients were transported to local hospitals by ambulance.”
The statement went on to say responders could not use an air ambulance due to fog. The accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
The patient with major injuries was not wearing a seatbelt, according to authorities.
