Handling the holidays

Dear Lindsay,

Thanksgiving is coming up and I really hate going to my uncle’s house. Their dog is mean and everyone smokes. Is there any easy way to get out of it?

-Dreading Turkey Day

Dear Dreading Turkey Day,

I’m sorry you are dreading going to your uncle’s house. Usually family gatherings are fun.

I’m pretty sure there is no way out of it, but there are some things you can do to ease the pain. Stay away from the dog if it bothers you so much. If you have an mp3 player, music usually helps me. Make sure the battery is charged. Try to stay away from the smoke too.

Also, let your parents know what’s up as well. Let them know you don’t like it, and warn them that you will be keeping your distance.

Dear Lindsay,

I really want to apply for a college in New York, but my parents don’t want me to go out of state. What should I do?

-Stuck in Cali.

Dear Stuck in Cali,

I’m sure one of the biggest reasons they do not want you out of state is because it costs so much money. That and it’s hard to let a child go, and out of state makes it even harder.

Talk to them. There are plenty of scholarships you can apply for. Take a look at the school together to decide if it is a good school for what you want to do. Sometimes the school may look good but when you finally do research, it could be far from what you actually want.

Dear Lindsay,

Are there any cool places to hear bands play around San Benito where you don’t have to be over 21?

-Bored Minor

Dear Bored Minor,

The majority of the places I know of vaguely are out of town. But soon we’ll be having a battle of the bands if I recall correctly. We have tons of local bands. If you ask Mr. Rooth at the high school, he can tell you anything. He is the rock guitar club advisor. He’ll help you out.

Dear Lindsay,

I really like this girl, but she just broke up with another guy and I don’t know how to tell if she is over him. Any hints on what to do?

-When to Make the Move

Dear When to Make the Move,

When girls break up with a guy, they’ll say they’re fine, but really, she is hurting. It’s just the way we are.

Just lay low right now. She may think she wants to move on, but she’ll end up regretting it. I wouldn’t want you to get hurt because you were a rebound. Talk to her and tell her that if she ever needs to talk to someone, you’re there to listen. You’ll score some points with that one. It lets her know you’re there, without you being all over her.
