Hollister – Jump-2-It, a local facility for children’s parties, recently celebrated its own 1-year birthday.
Owner Dolores DuMont said Jump-2-It’s beginnings had a lot to do with her experience as a mother. For one thing, after six years as a stay-at-home mom, DuMont was ready to go back to work.
“I said, ‘I’m sick of Barney; I’ve got to get out of this house,'” she said.
However, DuMont also knew it would be hard to find companies who would hire someone with three children in tow. Instead, DuMont needed to be her own boss, and she needed to run a business where her children could tag along.
So DuMont and her husband Jim decided to host parties in a 4,000-square-foot indoor facility at 857 Industrial Way. Families can rent inflatable bouncing devices from other companies, DuMont said, but Jump-2-It is the only Hollister business that provides an indoor party location.
“Not everyone wants 20 kids in their house,” she said.
DuMont added that as a mother of three “winter babies,” she’s knows that birthdays can be ruined by rain, but Jump-2-It’s indoor parties aren’t affected by the weather.
A Jump-2-It party can cost anywhere from $225 to $345, DuMont said. For more information, call 831-634-0905.
Jessie’s Brings Gas Back to Downtown Hollister
The gas station at Jessie’s Food, Family ‘N’ Fun has been looking pretty forlorn as its pumps sit unused, but owner Jessie Brar said things are about to change.
According to Brar, the station was closed a year ago because of new state requirements to for improvements the pipes and pumps. Brar said he got around to starting work on those upgrades in April, and they should take another three weeks to complete.
“We want to reopen by the Fourth of July,” he said.
Although Jessie’s won’t resume gas sales and reopen its convenience store until July, Brar said the Food, Family ‘N’ Fun facility – located at 710 San Benito Street – remains open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week.
Straw Hat Gets New Look, New Ownership
Customers at Hollister’s Straw Hat Pizza may have noticed that the restaurant has been sporting a new look.
“We wanted people to know that it’s a totally different restaurant,” manager T. Grewal said.
Although Straw Hat is part of a larger franchise, Grewal said the Hollister restaurant – located at 191 San Felipe Road – was recently taken over by new owners, who decided it was time to give the restaurant a facelift.
The inside was gutted and all the furniture and decorations were replaced, Grewal said. The remodeled restaurant opened in April, and he said remodeled interior is a big improvement
“It used to look like a ’70s school cafeteria,” Grewal said.
