Police briefs

Two Fresno residents killed in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 152 have been identified by the coroner’s office as Edward Arshag Kalpakian, 84, and Anahid Kalpakian, 76.

The crash was reported at 4:19 p.m. about five miles east of the Santa Clara County border, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Mikael Mikaelian, 70, of Clovis was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry east at about 65 mph. Mikaelian failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and traveled across the center median into oncoming westbound traffic, CHP officials said.

The Toyota collided with a Ford F-250 driven by Theodore Haynish, 52, of Hollister.

Mikaelian sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Haynish suffered minor injuries.

Both fatality victims were passengers in Mikaelian’s car, according to officer Jesse Lopez, CHP spokesman. They were killed instantly.

Edward Kalpakian was seated in the front passenger seat, and Anahid Kalpakian was seated in the back.

Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the crash, Lopez said. All parties involved were wearing their seat belts.
