The Hollister Havoc 12 and under baseball team is headed to Cooperstown, N.Y., this coming weekend to take part in one of a series of summer tournaments held in the iconic city’s youth baseball facility.
They were selected to play in the Cooperstown Dreams Park and American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament starting Sunday. Along with playing against the 103 other teams in the tournament, the members of the Hollister team will be enshrined into the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame.
Eleven members of the travel team and coaches will take part in opening ceremonies Saturday that includes a skills challenge. The team plays two games Sunday, two games Monday and two games Tuesday before seeding happens, said coach Damon Felice, who has a son on the team.
The team applied for the tournament after hearing it is something travel teams “just have to do,” Felice said. It took about two years to get the date the team wanted, he said.
As for the facility, it includes 27 fields, while the visitors will stay in dorms.
The Havoc typically plays tournaments in Northern California, the coach said. Due to conflicting Little League schedules this summer, the team played just one tournament over Memorial Day weekend.
The roster includes:
Quinn Alexander, West Andrade, Dawson Biersdorff, Jacob Burley, Jacob Casarez, Cade Dinsmore, Dominic Felice, Donnavan McAbee, David Talavera III, Javi Valdez, Richie Westphal
