Led by 26 points from Jesse Ramirez and 16 points from Nick Salgado, the Anzar boys’ basketball team won its sixth game of the season on Monday night when it defeated host Oakwood by a 52-33 margin in Morgan Hill.

The two leading scorers for the Hawks combined for 42 points and single-handedly outscored Oakwood, which was limited to single-digit point totals in each of the first three quarters.

The Hawks led 12-5 after the first quarter, 22-12 at halftime and 39-18 entering the final period.

Andres Gomez added four points in the win, while Christian Monroy, Matt Espinoza and Alex Samuels each added two points.

Anzar is now 5-2 in the Coastal Athletic League, 6-8 overall.

The Hawks are scheduled to square off against undefeated Pacific Collegiate on Wednesday at 4 p.m., although head coach Ed Cecena said the tip-off time might change.

AHS Girls Basketball

The Anzar girls’ basketball team split its two most recent games last week. The Hawks lost to York 27-23 on Jan. 21, but defeated Oakwood 52-17 on Jan. 25.

Anzar is now 3-3 in the Coastal Athletic League, 5-13 overall.

The Hawks will square off against Pacific Collegiate on Wednesday in Santa Cruz. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
