Jordan Belton dropped a team-high 10 points, 12 other Balers each made the box score, and the San Benito boys basketball team kicked off Tri-County Athletic League play with a win on Wednesday night when they defeated host North Salinas 63-43.

The Balers, who improve to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in the TCAL, have now won two games in a row and five of their last six.

Head coach Tracy Carpenter said everyone saw some playing time on Wednesday night, as San Benito jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter, 36-15 at halftime.

Cooper Sepulveda had eight points, Eric Elayda and Michael Breen each added seven, and Marcos Silva finished with six points to lead the Balers.

Sepulveda also guarded North High’s leading scorer, Victor Moran, and kept the senior Viking to just eight points in the game.

“He did a real nice job,” Carpenter said of Sepulveda’s defense.

Meanwhile, North Salinas’ David Daye led all scorers with 12 points on Wednesday.

With its TCAL opener out of the way, San Benito will now host its home opener against Gilroy on Friday at Hollister’s Mattson Gym. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
