Behind 13 points from Nicole Rianda and 11 from Erin Glasspool, the San Benito girls’ basketball team kept pace with Tri-County Athletic League leaders Gilroy and North Salinas on Thursday night when they defeated visiting Everett Alvarez 58-27 to earn their fourth win in a row.

The Balers, at 4-2 in the TCAL and 12-6 overall, remain one game behind Gilroy in the win column and one game behind North Salinas in the loss column.

San Benito will visit North Salinas next Thursday for a rematch of its Jan. 4 matchup — a 48-25 win by the Vikings.

Baler head coach David Kaplansky is interested in seeing how far his team has come since the opening week of TCAL play, which saw San Benito drop consecutive games to North High and Gilroy.

The Balers have since won four games, though.

“The kids are playing with a lot of confidence. Hopefully, we can improve on our last performance, grind it out and make it a game,” Kaplansky said.

On Thursday, against an Everett Alvarez team that was coming off its first league win of the season — a 41-37 victory at home to Salinas — the Balers took control from the get-go by outscoring the Eagles 16-6 in the first quarter, 32-14 at halftime.

Eleven different Balers made the box score in the game, with Kelsey Robledo adding seven points and both Mari Vallejo and Ellie Burley chiming in with six points apiece.

San Benito is off on Tuesday, but will return to the floor on Thursday for another battle with the Vikings (4-1 TCAL), who have won three straight since a 44-41 loss to Gilroy on Jan. 11.

Tip-off in Salinas is 7 p.m.
