The San Benito Haybalers fell behind host Palma 21-8 after one quarter and couldn’t come back on Friday night in Salinas, where the Chieftains earned at least a share of the Tri-County Athletic League crown with a 60-50 victory.

Palma is now 10-0 in the TCAL.

San Benito cut the deficit at halftime when it outscored Palma 22-12 in the second quarter, and trailed 33-30 at the break. But the Chieftains held on in the second half with a 27-20 edge.

Details were not reported at press time.

Cooper Sepulveda had 17 points to lead the Balers, who are now 5-5 in the TCAL and 13-9 overall.

San Benito will visit Alisal on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
