Behind Holli Silva and Nisha Ramanujam, Pacific Collegiate outscored Anzar 19-10 in the fourth quarter en route to a 33-22 victory on Wednesday night in San Juan Bautista, a win that will all but supply the Pumas with the Coastal Athletic League championship.

Pacific Collegiate improves to 7-0 in the CAL with three games remaining as a result of Wednesday’s contest, while second-place Anzar, which has won the league two years in a row, is now 3-2 and 5-10 overall. Both league losses for the Hawks have come against Pacific Collegiate; the Pumas defeated Anzar 36-22 on Jan. 8.

Wednesday’s contest was a low-scoring affair that saw the two rival schools knotted at 17-all during one point in the fourth quarter. But behind a 3-pointer from Silva and two three-point plays by Ramanujam, Pacific Collegiate went on a 10-0 run in the final stanza and eventually coasted to its 11-point victory.

“They hit a couple of shots and changed the momentum, while a couple of our shots it seemed like there was a lid on our basket,” Anzar head coach Mike Bonomi said. “That did it.”

Silva finished with a game-high 13 points.

Meanwhile, Anzar was led by Melissa Weckerle, who had nine points, six of which came from behind the arc. Teammate Kelsey Robledo added six points.

The Hawks, who have now lost two straight since falling to Harker in a non-conference game, will look to rebound on Friday when they will visit Marina at 6 p.m.
