The San Benito girls basketball team took the first step to
properly defending its tournament title on Thursday night when it
defeated Gilroy’s Christopher High 64-24 at the Wildcatz
Invitational in Watsonville.

The San Benito girls basketball team took the first step to properly defending its tournament title on Thursday night when it defeated Gilroy’s Christopher High 64-24 at the Wildcatz Invitational in Watsonville.

The Balers received scoring efforts from 10 different players, including Kelsey Robledo, who deposited a team-high 12 points in the win.

Nicole Rianda added nine points and both Mari Vallejo and Ellie Burley each had eight points to lead San Benito, which improves to 3-0 on the early season.

A year ago, the Balers defeated Monte Vista Christian, Pajaro Valley and El Camino Fundamental of Sacramento to earn the tournament title in Watsonville. It was the first of three straight non-conference tournaments San Benito would win last season.

The Balers will return to Watsonville on Friday night to take on Carmel, Tip-off is 6:30 p.m.
