SAN JOSE
A shorthanded Anzar boys basketball team was held scoreless in the third quarter on Monday night in San Jose, where host Lincoln built a 33-9 lead at halftime and never looked back en route to a 48-16 victory over the visiting Hawks in non-conference play.
Anzar was without two of its post players in Andres Gomez and Mark Rania in the game. The Hawks were led by Izzy Parra and Devon Parish, each of whom scored five points apiece on Monday night.
“We had no big men today,” Anzar head coach Ed Cecena said. “We were missing Gomez and Rania, and that made it difficult.
“We played with what we had.”
Trailing 33-9 at the break, Lincoln held the Hawks scoreless in the third quarter, 9-0. But Anzar managed to outscore the Lions in the final stanza by a 7-6 margin.
Monday’s loss wraps up Anzar’ non-conference slate. The Hawks, who are 2-12 this season, will open up Coastal Athletic League play on Jan. 6 when they will host Oakwood in San Juan Bautista at 7 p.m.
