The agricultural commissioner’s office Wednesday confirmed the presence of West Nile virus in a horse in northwestern San Benito County, according to an announcement from the local department.
It was the first reported case of West Nile virus in the county this year. There have been no confirmed human cases of the potentially deadly virus in 2013, while there have been 126 human cases statewide, according to the county agency.
The agricultural commissioner’s office is surveying sources of mosquitoes in that area and weighing whether more control work is needed there.
