Firefighters today contained an electrical fire to a home’s kitchen, and two of three family members inside the Lucy Brown Lane house at the time escaped without injuries.

The San Benito County Fire Department station on Fairview Road responded to the call at 11:50 a.m. and had the blaze in the 700 block of Lucy Brown Lane controlled by 12:30 p.m., said Capt. Jim Dellamonica.

A husband, wife and their 13-year-old child live at the two-bedroom home in unincorporated San Benito County. The mother and her daughter were there when it broke out, and the woman who was cooking reported the fire, Dellamonica said.

Firefighters contained the flames to the kitchen, but there was extensive smoke damage, too, he said.

“The whole kitchen was charred pretty good,” he said.

The Monterey-San Benito counties chapter of the American Red Cross assisted the family in getting a place to stay, as the home has to be cleaned and repaired in places, according to a press release from the organization.
