Here’s some tips for saving at the gas pump.
Editor,
Here’s some tips for saving at the gas pump.
n Rideshare: The cost of fuel has risen 40 percent since the beginning of the year, increase your gas mileage by considering the alternatives – carpool with someone else to work or join a vanpool. A free carpool/vanpool Matchlist is available at www.sanbenitorideshare.org.
n Walk/Bike: The average driver is spending about $2.77 per gallon of gas for their car. Eliminate your gas expenses by considering walking or bicycling to work or when running errands. It’s also the healthier way to travel for both you and the environment. And, according to AAA, people who commute by bike save between $2000-$5000 each year!
n Ride the Bus: Transit is the best way to carry the most people from one point to another. Transit is very affordable with San Benito County Express at only 75 cents for a one-way bus ticket for adults and 50 cents for youth, seniors and disabled. Riders can save more by purchasing a monthly pass.
n Trip Chain: Increase your gas mileage by decreasing the number of trips you make. Drop off the kids at soccer practice, run by the bank and pick up groceries all in one trip. By making a list of your errands and combining them into one trip, it will help you get things done and help reduce traffic congestion, air pollution and save you money.
n Telecommute: Telecommute or work from home. You’ll reduce stress and your commuting costs while helping the environment. Working from home just one day a week will reduce traffic congestion and your commuting costs by 20 percent!
