After an absolutely fitting end to her high school career, San Benito senior Brittany Huth wasn’t ready to stop playing soccer.

The Tri-County Athletic League Most Valuable Midfielder helped the Haybalers to a share of their first ever league title and a trip to the Central Coast Section playoffs in the winter. Now she’ll be taking a trip – to Coos Bay, Ore.

The senior captain, who was second on the team with 10 goals, made official her plans to accept a partial scholarship to Southwestern Oregon Community College.

“I’m really excited that I still get to play soccer,” said Huth, who signed and mailed off the paperwork Thursday.

The Lakers finished last season with a 16-2-5 record and were the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College Southern Region champions. They advanced to the NWAACC semifinals, where they finished tied for third.

“And they’re expected to do a lot better next year,” Huth said.

In addition to her 10 goals, Huth was tied for the team-lead with six assists and finished the season strong. She had four goals in the last three games and seven goals over the final eight.

A four-year varsity player for the ‘Balers, Huth is hoping to make an impact as a freshman.

“The coach told me if I work hard, I’ll get significant playing time,” Huth said.

The Lakers have their season in the fall, meaning Huth will quickly be in action when the school year starts as she transitions into the college game.

“It’ll be a lot higher skill level so I’ll have to be able to practice and get used to it,” Huth said.
