It was the same exact result, and it happened in almost the same exact way.

Most teams would rather not go up against San Benito pitcher Marisa Ibarra, and the Burlingame Panthers, without a doubt, is one of those teams.

One year removed from a dazzling no-hit performance against Burlingame in Hollister, Ibarra did it again on Tuesday.

Striking out 10, Ibarra hurled yet another no-hitter against the Panthers en route to a 5-0 Lady ‘Baler victory on the road in Burlingame. In two games over two consecutive seasons, Ibarra has allowed no hits, two walks, while striking out 17 during 14 innings of work against the Panthers.

It is the seventh no-hitter in Ibarra’s high school career. She improves to 4-0 on the season.

Her teammates supplied one run in the first inning – more than enough run support for Ibarra on Tuesday – when Bre Fata connected on an RBI single that scored Jessica Vest from first base.

Vest and teammate Marissa Adame were 2-for-3 in the game.

In the third, JC Clayton delivered a hard-hit ball by Burlingame’s second baseman that rolled and rolled and rolled, and Clayton ran around the bases for a solo homer run.

San Benito tacked on three more in the seventh when Gina Norman and Adame led off with singles. After Clayton grounded into a fielder’s choice, advancing Norman to third, Marissa Moisa followed with a fielder’s choice of her own that scored Norman.

Vest then trailed with an RBI single to score Clayton, then put herself into scoring position when she stole second and advanced to third on a pass ball. Vest would later score when Bre Fata’s fly in the outfield resulted in a fielding error, plating Vest from third to make it 5-0.

San Benito (4-0) will return to the Annie Lynch Memorial Circle of Champions Tournament on Saturday at the Salinas Sports Complex. The Lady ‘Balers are slated to play rival Gilroy (7-3-1) at 2 p.m.
