Road Warrior ready for Fight Night after Dobbs signs
contract
Hollister – Kelsey Jeffries can finally breathe a sigh of relief. After a tumultous last few days, the Hollister-based boxer finally received the contract Tuesday night that ensures her appearance at Fight Night at the Tank on Thursday.
“I’m very happy,” said Jeffries, who will oppose Oklahoma’s Stephanie Dobbs in the Hector Camacho-Jr.-headlined event at San Jose’s HP Pavilion.
After Goossen Tutor Promotions appeared to identify an opponent for Jeffries late last week, the Road Warrior was amped up to return to Fight Night for 10th time. But once those negotiations fell through, Jeffries and manager Bruce Anderson nervously awaited word from matchmaker Tom Brown until Dobbs accepted the bout Tuesday.
Instead of the 122-pound match that Jeffries had been training for, the semi-main event will be a 119-pound contest.
While Jeffries is thrilled she will fight in front of her hometown fans, a few familiar faces will be missing when she takes the ring Thursday. Not only will Anderson not make the last-minute trek from Oregon, but Jeffries’ manager also said all the ups and downs of the negotiations will prevent renowned trainer Buddy McGirt from working her corner.
“You can’t bring him all the way from Florida,” Anderson said, “because you don’t know what the hell you’ve got here.”
Nevertheless, what Jeffries and Anderson do have is a fight. Finally.
