The San Benito baseball team’s scheduled league game against Palma on Tuesday, the track team’s league meet against Salinas on Wednesday and the softball team’s league game against Notre Dame on Thursday were all postponed due to the tragic events that took place in Salinas last weekend.
No make-up dates were announced.
The postponements are in light of Friday’s car accident in Salinas that killed two teenagers, Bella Dakis and Gen Giammanco. Dakis reportedly spent her freshman and sophomore years at Notre Dame before transferring to Salinas High, according to The Salinas Californian.
The San Benito baseball team will now open a home-and-home series with Alisal on Friday and Saturday. The Balers will visit the Trojans on Friday at 4 p.m., and will host the Salinas school on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Lady Balers, meanwhile, who defeated Alisal 8-0 on Tuesday, will return to the Steinbeck Classic this weekend in Salinas to resume tournament play. San Benito went 2-0 last Saturday, and will open against San Lorenzo Valley at the Salinas Sports Complex this Saturday. First pitch is 11 a.m.
As for the track team, its next scheduled meet will come Saturday, when the team is expected to attend the Bill Kearney Invitational at Salinas High School.

The Anzar High baseball team returned to Coastal Athletic League play on Tuesday and snapped a four-game losing streak in the process when it topped visiting Marina 12-2 in five innings of play in San Juan Bautista.
Devon Parish allowed two unearned runs in the first inning, but threw a no-hitter, nevertheless.
The Anzar senior walked the first two batters he faced in the first inning and the Hawks defense compounded the free bases with a pair of errors in the field, leading to Marina’s early 2-0 lead.
But going five-innings strong for the Hawks, Parish struck out nine on Tuesday and never allowed a single hit. He didn’t allow another walk in the game either.
Meanwhile, Anzar got one run back in the home half of the first when Blake Selsor singled on, stole second, then plated the Hawks’ first run when Adam Huaracha connected on an RBI single up the middle.
The one-run deficit held until the fourth inning when Anzar exploded for seven runs. One inning later, the Hawks tacked on four more runs.
The game was stopped in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Selsor finished the game 3 of 4 with two doubles and two RBI, Nick Salgado was also 3 of 4 with a triple and an RBI, and Parish helped his own cause by going 2 of 3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
The victory was Anzar’s first since its previous game against Marina on March 23. The team competed in a tournament in Atwater over spring break and compiled an 0-4 record, while last Friday’s game against Soledad resulted in an 11-0 loss.
The Hawks are now 4-0 in the CAL, 6-8 overall.
Anzar’s scheduled game against St. Francis of Watsonville on Wednesday took place after The Weekend Pinnacle’s press time.

A sweep of the doubles portion allowed the San Benito Haybalers to defeat the Palma Chieftains 5-2 on Tuesday in Tri-County Athletic League action.
It was the first match for the Balers since March 29 when they narrowly lost 4-3 to Carmel. San Benito is now 5-3 on the season.
Palma managed to take the top two singles matches for its only points on the day. Chieftain Dominick Ottone topped Kyle Skinner 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 position, while teammate Hunter Johnson defeated Jacob Garcia 6-4, 6-0 in the 2-spot in singles.
Otherwise, San Benito took the remaining five matches, including three doubles matches to provide the win.
Connor Bray and Michael Jensen upended Joe Corner and Ethan Shaw 6-4, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles; Jacob Panger and Geoff Muzik topped Neal Lel and John Delgado 6-1, 6-1; and San Benito’s Travis Mills and Mark Starritt dispatched Henry Marassou and Ernesto Huerta 6-3, 6-3.
On March 11, the Balers swept the doubles portion over Palma en route to an identical 5-2 victory.
In No. 3 singles on Tuesday, though, Austin Pan defeated Christian Bengard 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), and Eric Johnson beat Jose Ponce 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to round out San Benito’s victories.
The Balers’ scheduled match on Thursday against Monte Vista Christian took place after The Weekend Pinnacle’s press time.
