The Harbor Pirates girls basketball team was held to single digits in each quarter Tuesday night against the San Benito Lady ‘Balers, and were nearly held to single digits for the entire game.

San Benito, which returned to Hollister’s Mattson Gym after last weekend’s Presentation Shootout in San Jose, delivered a convincing 70-10 victory over visiting Harbor Tuesday in a game in which each Lady ‘Baler pocketed points.

Vanessa Farias led all scorers with 16 points and teammate Megan Halstead contributed 15 for San Benito, which improves to 5-3 overall this season.

“Megan played a good game under the basket,” San Benito head coach David Kaplansky said. “Everybody scored and they played really hard.

“Everyone contributed, played, and it was a feel-good game.”

Erin Glasspool had nine points behind 3 of 4 shooting from 3-point range, while San Benito jumped all over the Pirates early, outscoring the Santa Cruz school 24-4 in the first quarter.

San Benito led 37-6 at halftime.

The Lady ‘Balers will return Friday for the Dons Club Holiday Tournament at Del Mar High in Campbell. San Benito is slated to open against Branham at 12 p.m., on Friday in the first round of the 16-team tournament.

San Benito will then face off against either the winner or the loser of the Santa Clara-Westmont game on Saturday.
