Three of the matches on Tuesday between San Benito and Alisal went all the way to a third-set tiebreaker, but the host Lady Balers took every one of them en route to an easy 7-0 sweep of the Trojans at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.

The win evens San Benito’s Tri-County Athletic League record at 1-1.

Both the No. 1 and No. 3 singles spots went the full three sets on Tuesday, and both Hayley Barker and Kristina Slavich picked up victories. Barker defeated Nicole Saldana 6-1, 2-6, 10-6, while Slavich downed Jermine Rabanal 7-5, 4-6, 10-4.

Rachel Smith’s win at the No. 2 spot was a little easier, as she defeated Genevieve Urepa 6-3, 6-0. Teammate Alex Triolo followed suit with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Amanda Salazar.

In doubles, Vanessa Casalegno and Erin Glasspool teamed up to beat Myra Juarez and Jennifer Camacho 6-2, 6-2. Alex Garcia and Danielle Dube also took their match when they topped Janet Gayaga and Marrie Larajo 6-2, 6-1.

The closest doubles match came at the No. 3 position, but San Benito’s Audrey Marshall and Anne Tobias pulled out the victory by upending Esther Rios and Yesenia Lopez 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.

San Benito’s scheduled matches against Aptos on Wednesday and North Salinas on Thursday were held after The Weekend Pinnacle’s press time.

SBHS Girls Volleyball

The San Benito High girls volleyball team handily defeated visiting Alisal in three games (25-10, 25-18, 25-13) on Tuesday night in Hollister.

It was San Benito’s Tri-County Athletic League opener, and the Lady Balers improved to 1-0 as a result.

Kelsey Asp led the Lady Balers with a team-high 10 kills, while Sam Klauer added 16 digs.

San Benito’s (9-6) scheduled match with North Salinas on Thursday was held after The Weekend Pinnacle’s press time.

AHS Cross Country

Led by Aaron Hsia-Coron and Valerie Quezada, the Anzar High cross country team defeated Marina in both the boys and girls divisions last week at Gavilan College in Gilroy.

Hsia-Coron recorded a 16:30 to take first place in the boys race and anchored the Hawks to a 22-32 win over Marina.

Quezada, meanwhile, was first in the girls race with a 22:29, and helped lead the Anzar girls cross country team past Marina by a 24-33 margin.

Anzar’s scheduled Mission Trail Athletic League Center Meet at Salinas’ Toro Park on Thursday was held after The Weekend Pinnacle’s press time.
