Generally my family and I enjoy reading the Hollister Free Lance. We were appalled at a recent week’s “Top Story” (Mayor: Signs are ‘trash’).
Two things were alarming; one that this is considered headline news, and two, the obvious untrue characterization of our mayor and the misleading headline.
How is this front-page news when ISIL is beheading Americans and Jerry Brown is giving $300 million of our money to the film industry. Is this the most important story in San Benito County when the California legislature is seeking to tax and restrict private groundwater? Hollister has had three recent murders and this is your best shot at the front page??!
Secondly the mayor isn’t seeking to imprison or fine people who have garage sales or even who put up signs. All he is doing is asking code enforcement to do it’s mandated JOB!!
He didn’t call garage sale signs trash as your headline stated. He said when people leave them up for weeks on end they aren’t picking up their “trash” and they should be cited. You want to see what happens when people leave this stuff up? Take a trip to Berkeley or downtown San Francisco. Look at the telephone poles where you can’t even see the pole itself for the plethora of signage and crap stapled to it, be careful not to step in the puddles of urine while you’re at it. Is this what you want for Hollister?
Who wrote this article? Eric White?
I daresay your article and the placement of it is the real trash here.
