The issue of FRACKING in San Benito County is a Trojan Horse.
The geology of San Benito County has so many faults, folds, and discontinuities that horizontal drilling is not practical. Without horizontal drilling, fracking is not practical.
If Measure J fails, there will be no fracking in San Benito County.
If measure J passes, there will be no fracking in San Benito County. There will be no enhanced oil recovery in the rural, residential areas of the county. The gas well northwest of Hollister will have up to 3 years to comply. That is, to shut down enhanced gas recovery. The gas deposits near Hudner Lane will never be developed. San Benito County will lose existing tax revenue and not realize future tax revenue. Ouch.
San Benito County will have to import more petroleum products. So will California. So will the United States, further hurting our international balance of payments.
Make up your own mind on fracking.
