Student urges donations to save band

Hello, my name is Cloe Brown. I’m 10 years old and I go to Ladd Lane Elementary School. I play the flute and when I heard there was not enough money to keep the band program, I felt upset. I thought and thought of what I could do to help.

First I thought I could ask people for money, but then thought that wasn’t right. So I made a sign that said, “Save the Band,” and put signs on plastic jars, asking for donations to save the band.  Some nice businesses let me put my jars on their counters. I asked the managers first and they all said yes.

So far I have collected $191.36, which includes a $50 check from my aunt’s workplace. Family and friends have also helped me, and I want to raise more to save the band. We’ve been told we need to raise thousands of dollars by March! Last Thursday, I made a speech at the Hollister School District Winter Music Concert and turned in the money I had collected so far. This Tuesday I’m going to speak in front of the School Board to let them know what I am trying to do.

Thank you to: Royal Circuit Solutions, Hollister West Coast World Martial Arts, Jerry’s Restaurant, Mountain Mike’s Pizza and Best of Times Café for helping me collect money for the band. Music is important! All I want for Christmas is to save the band. Please help me.

If you’d like to donate to the “Save the Music” fund, please go to:  www.savehollistermusic.org. You can also contact any of the wonderful Hollister School District music teachers, including:  Susan Silveira, Elementary Schools Music Director:  [email protected]., 831-524-3279. Thank you.
