Dear Editor,
Before you cast your ballot for District 2 Supervisor please
consider the following: The position of supervisor is a
non-partisan position, yet Anthony Freitas has distributed fliers
with the notion

Democrat for district 2

written on them. Mr. Freitas

became

a Democrat by changing his party affiliation the same day he
filed his candidacy papers. If you vote for him based on
affiliation are you’re voting for a Democrat, a Republican, or an
Opportunist? One of his field representatives asked for my opinion
regarding the financial state of the county. My response was that I
thought we were in a better position than four years ago. I would
have continued by saying that I though the board was making every
effort to resolve financial issues, but before I could respond I
was assaulted with the comment,

Have you even seen the budget? I’ve read the budget.

The exchange reminded me of the dust up between Ruth Kessler and
Anthony Freitas during the last election when both individuals
responded negatively to criticism.
Botelho has best interests in mind

Dear Editor,

Before you cast your ballot for District 2 Supervisor please consider the following: The position of supervisor is a non-partisan position, yet Anthony Freitas has distributed fliers with the notion “Democrat for district 2” written on them. Mr. Freitas “became” a Democrat by changing his party affiliation the same day he filed his candidacy papers. If you vote for him based on affiliation are you’re voting for a Democrat, a Republican, or an Opportunist? One of his field representatives asked for my opinion regarding the financial state of the county. My response was that I thought we were in a better position than four years ago. I would have continued by saying that I though the board was making every effort to resolve financial issues, but before I could respond I was assaulted with the comment, “Have you even seen the budget? I’ve read the budget.” The exchange reminded me of the dust up between Ruth Kessler and Anthony Freitas during the last election when both individuals responded negatively to criticism. Has anything changed?

I have seen the budget, read the budget, sat in on budget hearings and I have attended roughly 75 percent of the board meetings in the last four years, unlike Mr. Freitas who just started attending meetings this month. If he had been attending the meetings he would know that Anthony Botelho and the board have been addressing saving prime ag land, centralizing business, reviewing incentives, making the Planning/Building Department more user friendly and working with other agencies to resolve regional issues. The issue of Highway 156 is also not new.

Anthony Botelho has always wanted improvements that would be conducive to the local (Hollister commuter) automobile traffic while limiting the appeal to holiday, vacation, and truck traffic, which is why he prefers a northern transportation corridor. Imagine 156 with the additional traffic, and its side effects, and you will understand why Anthony Botelho is worried about the destruction of the San Juan Valley. Hollister voters may look at the 156 issue and feel Anthony Botelho favors Aromas/San Juan over them, but nothing could be further from the truth. If you look at Anthony Botelho’s voting record you will find he is a supervisor who votes to benefit all residents of San Benito County.

Anthony Botelho is a good, solid supervisor who represents our District and County well. He deserves the consideration of your vote.

Robert Scoles, Aromas
