Will the city renege on CalFire deal?
Dear Editor,
I have only been a Hollister resident for 10 years and even I know about the proposal to lease out a part of the airport to CalFire. Whether it is on a formal contract or not is not the question. The question is: Is the City of Hollister, as represented by its city manager and council, going to renege on this offer and sell out its integrity to developers … again?
Even though there was a glimmer of hope that the council was going to do the right thing when it had the attack base put back in the plans last month. I think this scenario is all too familiar … however, I might be wrong.

We need fewer like Perata and more like our own State Sen. Jeff Denham
Dear Editor,
It is likely there will be a recall election on the June ballot to recall Senator Jeff Denham. His crime was to hold out for a balanced budget last summer. A balanced budge is required by the Constitution of California. Our leader of the Senate, Don Perata (D-Oakland), led the effort.
Now the projected budget deficit is up to $16 billion and will probably rise.
At least Perata’s attempt to extend his term in office four more years failed (Prop 93 lost). He will be gone at the end of this session. We need to keep officials like Denham.
