Kiddie Parade today

Dear Editor,

Please let kids of all ages know that they are invited to the annual “July 4th Kiddie Parade” beginning at 10 am.

It will start at the County Express parking lot at Veteran’s Memorial Park, corner of Memorial Drive and Hillcrest, proceed north on Memorial Drive, left at Meridian finishing with a Welcome at Marguerite Maze Parking lot followed by punch and cookies.

All children will be given an American flag and are invited to decorate their scooter, bike, trike, baby buggy, wagon, wear red white and blue, if they wish. Parents should walk with their children and everyone is invited to cheer them on and take photos.

No registration is required, just show up.

There will be a free, community firework display at Margerite Maze School beginning at dusk.

All the above events are made possible by the 4th of July Committee, San Benito County Chamber of Commerce, City of Hollister and the 12 non-profit organizations with firework stands.

Further details, call Geri Johnson at 636-4304 or Ruth Erickson at 637-0987.

Done bucking

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank Curtis and Nick, along with all the Free Lance staff for the ultimate award this cowboy has received – “Honor”.

To each and everyone who touched my life this past weekend with a handshake, hug, kiss, Coors, shot of J.D. and those prayers that were heard above by God and my dad.

Mom, my soul mate Gloria and dear friends who I assured I was only going to turn the bull out of the chute – I’m sorry I fed ya a line of bull. But there is a bright side. With the three broken ribs I received Friday night, my knee no longer hurts. Go figure.

This tear and ink is for all of you.

Joe Cousins, Hollister
