Welcome local investment
I was pleasantly surprised to read about a proposed water park
for the enjoyment of local families and out of town visitors. What
a coup for our community, bringing weekend and summer jobs for our
youth, family fun and a wide variety of activities in addition to
the water park.
The county will benefit from the income and the park will bring
tourists here to enjoy our county and perhaps stay and visit some
of our other attractions!
While we try to recover from our building moratorium and
businesses closing, what a boost this would be to complement our
other family activities which have worked hard through these tough
economic times.
I hope that the permit process will be streamlined for the city
and county so that we will be ready to bring in business, industry
and family activities to benefit the community. Let’s welcome those
wishing to invest in this county.

Fix the budget mess

It is past time for California to follow the example of states that adopt their budgets on time. They use a majority vote, not a two-thirds super-majority, to adopt their budget. Had a majority vote system been in place, we would not have had a single late budget in the last 10 years. We might also be ready to cope with our 21st Century problems.

Don’t ignore the real enemy

Regrettably, Mary Zanger chooses to attack me personally rather than addressing the issues. She totally ignores the points I made about the actual causes of human suffering and millions of war-related deaths – tyranny and repression. Her response is riddled with omissions and inaccuracies in an attempt to use scare tactics to promote her point of view.

First, there is no such thing as a “hair-trigger alert” for the nuclear weapons and the systems are not even on a heightened state of alert unless the command authorities declare one. Second, rather than ignoring treaties, the current administration accelerated the scrapping of the U.S. nuclear weapon stockpile almost five years ahead of its treaty obligations. The resulting stockpile will be less than one-quarter the size it was at the end of the Cold War.

Finally, if there is a “legacy of fear” it’s because some people choose to ignore the actual causes of misery in favor of artificial hysteria. If you live in a totalitarian or radical society, do you fear America’s nuclear stockpile or the knock on the door in the middle of the night?

GOP got it right

Frank Crosby, the nearby, fetid socialist and author of a weekly, nonsensical, anti-Bush rant, claims in his latest outburst that we need to “return to the Constitution.” This is obviously someone who supported Al Gore, who told us the Constitution can mean whatever we want it to (in which case it means nothing).

It took excellent Supreme Court appointments by the best President yet to finally remind the Democrats that the Second Amendment applies to the people and not the various national guards.

Crosby also claims that the “House of Representatives brings a ray of hope,” yet, the last time Congress had this low an approval rating was 1994, just before the Democrats were ousted for 12 good years.
