Business-friendly reps needed
The California Chamber of Commerce ranks our representatives in
Sacramento according to their votes on business-related legislation
such as economic development, employment law, environmental
regulation, health care, and taxation. Senator Jeff Denham was
rated 100% while our Assembly Representative, Anna Caballero, was
rated 38%. (Freelance Nov. 17.)
Jeff Denham is termed-out of the Senate next year. Anna
Caballero wants to replace him. We believe Anthony Cannella, Mayor
of Ceres (Stanislaus County), would be better for our district. We
do not need another business-unfriendly legislator in
Sacramento.
If business cannot make a profit, there are no jobs or taxes. If
there are no taxes, there would be no government. Caballero does
not seem to realize that fact.

Plastic is bad for the environment
On Nov. 9, 2009, I read a letter in the opinion page written by Mark Dickson and how he felt that we are wasting time on the environment. He also said that it is wrong to waste time on trying to not use plastic. That upset me. He probably doesn’t know what plastic does to our environment. He might not know how much they pollute our earth.
I know that if we don’t take care of our earth we will eventually run out of many things we need. We won’t be able to do a lot. Plastic is so bad for the environment because it doesn’t decompose into the soil. If we would totally get rid of plastic, then we would have a better environment. We could also use cloth bags instead of paper or plastic.

Condor chick is ‘good news’
I am responding to the article called “Hatched condor takes historic flight.” I was reading this article on Nov. 9 and I thought it was amazing, first because it normally takes a baby condor a lot to fly and also since the parents were so young to have been hatching chicks.
This is also very good news because maybe the condor population can get bigger. If we just leave them to be and protect their environment, there would be more condors.
Just think if we all stop destroying habitats and using lead bullets, they’d all be okay.

Sports coverage is great
On Friday, Oct. 16, the Hollister Balers played the North Salinas Vikings. It was a good game and your article was perfect. You showed the most important plays of the game and information. My favorite part of your article was when Sal Ornelas stepped up and made his fifth interception of the year.
I love reading the Free Lance because they show every Baler game. They write good details. I never read the newspaper, but when the Balers started winning I did. It is kinda cool to read the newspaper. I hope next year the Balers are a winning team.

Plastic bags pollute
I disagree on that statement by Mark Dickson because those plastic bags can’t be decomposed and they pollute the earth. If you look around, you always see those Target or Safeway plastic bags blowing around on the ground.
Yeah, sure, they are good for reusing into garbage bags, waste bags, etc., but they’re also hurting our planet. I think our city council and county government are doing a good deed. Who cares if they come investigate, if it is just another tiny bump in the road?
Just think, those plastic bags that people didn’t take home to reuse are blowing around the whole town of Hollister, killing birds and animals, and also polluting our water.

Balers are a ‘good team’
I think you did an excellent job on talking about the Hollister Balers, but too bad the Balers lost last Friday against Palma. Also, nice photos in the paper. The Balers are my favorite team out of Hollister – well everybody that lives in Hollister likes the Balers.
It was a good and close game. I asked myself, ‘How did the Balers lose that game?’ It was just by one point. I wonder how the game was. The scores was 10-3 and the Balers were winning, but somehow the score ended up 24-23 and Palma had won.
The Balers are a good team. You did a great job editing the article on the Balers. The Balers should beat Palma the next time they play them.
