Many Deserve Thanks for SBHS Graduation Ceremony
Editor,
As you may know, the San Benito High School Class of 2007 graduation has come and gone. This year we had over 590 graduates and over 5,100 guests attend this year. Putting on a commencement exercise so large is quite an undertaking. It can’t be done without hard work from many people. As chairman of the 2007 Graduation Committee, I would like to extend a “thank you” to the following people: Mr. Dan Quinn and Mr. Mario Ferrito for their outstanding job as masters of ceremonies. Mr. Juan Robledo for his guidance and videotaping skills, Miss Camille Vargas for her wonderful rendition of the National Anthem (I am sure she will be an excellent music teacher in a few years). To Arianah Ruzovich for the beautiful song, “We Can” as one of our inspirational songs, and Matthew Morrison for his inspirational piece as he played the piano with “The Feather Song” from Forrest Gump. Of course, we can’t forget Valerie Nicholayson and Hannah Smith who stepped in that morning to sing “For Good” when one of our performers couldn’t be there.
Also, to our Board of Trustees for certifying the class and the presentation of the diplomas. Mr. Steve Greer and his staff for all their hard work with the many tasks they performed. Mrs. Tina Know for obtaining all the plants and constructing the flower boxes in such a short amount of time. All the junior parents and junior students who worked for that week so the parents of the graduates could have the day off and attend our children’s graduation. The 41 senior parents (yes 41 out of a class of 620) who attended 80 to 90 percent of all the Grad Committee meetings and worked endlessly to get everything done. I can’t remember when a group so small did so much work for such a large group of many people in attendance. Also, the volunteers and Sober Grad Committee for an outstanding job with an event that had over 400 seniors come to the event and had a great time and won wonderful prizes.
The businesses of San Benito County for your monetary donations and donations of gifts, certificates, and food for the events of June 7, 2007. How lucky this class of graduates is to live in such a generous community!
Last, and certainly not least, Ms. Laurie Cottrell, our adviser. She took on this job on her first year at San Benito, and put in more hours than I can count. Your dedication to this event was the catalyst for a successful event. I know that next year you’ll have just as much fun as you did this year, but with less gray hairs. If I have left anyone out, please accept my apologies, because I am certainly thankful for your contribution.
