Kay Filice has been recognized as the “Woman of the Year” in the 28th Assembly District.

“Kay Filice is truly an amazing woman, the mother of three boys lost her husband in 1998,” according to a press release from Assemblywoman Anna Caballero’s office. “Since then, Kay has shouldered the responsibility of raising her children and became the major breadwinner by taking over the operation and management of the family farm.”

The statement goes on to note how Filice became the first female chair of the Grower-Shipper Association of Central California in 2007. It also points out her involvement in her church, the Community Foundation for San Benito County, the local YMCA and the Kinship Center.

Said Filice in the statement: “I am honored to have been chosen as Woman of the Year, when there are so many deserving women in this District.”

The Woman of the Year Award, according to Caballero’s office, is made possible by the Women’s Caucus of the California State Legislature.
