Reps announce $1M in funding for climate mitigation efforts
U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will distribute $1 million to Santa Clara and San Benito counties to develop and improve climate mitigation efforts.
“Climate change is already impacting our communities and will worsen if we do not act,” the representatives stated in a press release. “That’s why we’re so proud to have voted for the Inflation Reduction Act—legislation that made the largest-ever investment in combating the climate crisis, including funding the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program which provided $1 million to Santa Clara and San Benito counties to improve climate mitigation efforts. We will continue to support robust investments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to protect our communities.”
This funding comes from the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program, which supports state and local governments in the development and implementation of plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Applications now open for Arts Express Grant Program
The San Benito County Arts Council is seeking applications for its 2023 Arts Express Grant Program.
The goal of the Arts Express Grant Program is to promote artistic and cultural engagement, accessibility, equity and diversity in San Benito County. Local artists, art groups, arts and cultural organizations, and public school teachers are invited to apply for project-based funding for activities that take place between Nov. 1-June 30 and are for the benefit of San Benito County residents.
The deadline to apply is 5pm on Sept. 29.
Individual artists, arts organizations and cultural groups may apply for up to $2,500 in grant funding with no matching funds required. Public school teachers may request up to $500 in support through the Arts Council’s Teacher Grants, which may be used for class field trips to museums, performances and other cultural venues, for art supplies, curriculum, guest artists and other allowable expenditures.
To learn more about this year’s Arts Express Grant Program, prospective applicants are encouraged to join the Arts Council for a virtual workshop on Sept. 7th at 5pm. The Zoom link to the workshop can be found at sanbenitoarts.org. Pre-registration is not required.

Latin Night Dance Parties continue
The San Benito County Arts Council’s new series of Latin Night Dance Parties take place at Grillin & Chillin Alehouse, 401 McCray St., #B24 in Hollister.
Attendees can learn Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Cumbia. All levels of dance experience welcome, no partner or prior experience needed. A $10 donation is suggested, but there is no cover charge.
The next dance will take place Sept. 22 at 8pm.
