Pietra Santa Winery and Alicats both took home medals at one of
the largest wine competitions in the world.
On Jan. 8th, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
concluded an annual week of judging at the Cloverdale Citrus
Fairgrounds in Sonoma County, according to the competition’s Web
site. Over five days, 63 professional wine experts tasted and
evaluated a 4,913 entries, a world record.

On Jan. 8th, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition concluded an annual week of judging at the Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds in Sonoma County, according to the competition’s Web site. Over five days, 63 professional wine experts tasted and evaluated a 4,913 entries, a world record.
Wines were awarded as Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Double Gold. In addition, there were Best of Class & Judges’ Choice Awards given for each of the wine judging categories. There also was the prestigious Sweepstake Awards for the top Sparkling, White, Pink, Red, & Dessert/Specialty wines, according to the contest.
Pietra Santa won Gold in three categories, Silver in two and Bronze in four. Alicats took home two Silver awards.
Pietra won gold for its Sacred Stone Red Blend at $9.99, its 2004 Estate Grown Sangiovese at $18 and its 2006 Vache Red Blend at $45. Alicats won Silver for two separate types of syrah/shiraz, both listed at $19.99.
