at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
Hollister residents Scott Marshall, Jon Whorely and Mary Lanning of team It’s All Down Here From Here will compete in the upcoming Balance Bar® Adventure Sprint race in Sacramento on Saturday to take place at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is located at the base of the Sierra foothills. The 18,000-acre lake and recreation area offers a number of outdoor opportunities including hiking, biking, running andboating. The park also includes a 32-mile bicycle path that connects Folsom Lake with other Sacramento County parks before stretching into Old Sacramento.
A great introduction to the sport of adventure racing, Balance Bar® Adventure Sprints feature courses approximately 20 miles in length, while spanning 2.5-6 hours. Disciplines featured in the Balance Bar® Adventure Sprints include mountain biking, running and kayaking as well as special obstacle tests. Competitor divisions include: Elite Coed, Coed, Male, Female, Corporate, College, and Masters Coed (combined age of 120+).
The Balance Bar® Adventure Sprints continue in Hartford, CT, Sep. 6-7; Richmond, VA, Oct. 4-5; with the Series final in Los Angeles Oct. 18-19.
The Series offers a spectator festival at each event with special tests and the Balance Bar® Kids Adventure, a race for children under 10. Online registration is available at www.BalanceBarAdventure.com or by calling (203) 352-5216.
The Balance Bar® Adventure Sprints Series is offering a total of $60,000 in prize money between the individual events and overall Series offerings. The Balance Bar® Adventure Sprints has increased the overall Series prize purse by 87 percent while the individual events boast a 50 percent increase from 2002.
Prize money is awarded to the first through fifth place finishers of each race as well at the end of the Series. Prize money is awarded in the coed elite divisions only. Teams competing for the Balance Bar® Adventure Sprints Series championship must compete in four of the eight total events, including the Series final in Los Angeles, Oct. 18-19.
