I recently read in the Free Lance an article about neighbors of a person who raises roosters that are complaining about the noise and smell and that they are scared it will lower the land value.
First off, the Free Lance had an article that told about home prices going up, and I think that some roosters that your neighbor has won’t bring down the value especially if they are taken care of the way they are. I have been by there and this ranch is a beautiful place to see the way things are organized and cleaned.
What is it that you as neighbors have to worry about? It can’t be the noise because I have parked across the street just to look at the birds and had to get off the car to hear them better. I also couldn’t smell the stench that was talked about by the neighbors. If anything, I could smell the horses and cows, which brings me to the laws that are apparently being broken according to some neighbors.
The ordinance states that you may raise no more than 500 roosters, so I think you people need to read your ordinance because there is a law that tells about how many horses and or cows that can be kept per acre. So before you start crying about what your neighbors doing, take a moment to see what you are doing in your own back yard. Maybe then you will realize what is making your property value drop. We all have some kind of improvements to make to our own homes, so let’s do them before crying about our neighbors.
The article also stated that these neighbors are saying that these birds may be used for cock fighting. How is it that you know what they are being used for? Are you people experts on this matter? We have poultry shows here in Hollister that actually give ribbons to the best birds. This breed of bird is called an Old English Game Bird that can, and is, mistaken for a fighting cock. Just because you raise horses, cows and bulls should I say you do it to race, eat, or enter them in rodeos?
We need to be very careful about what we say or accuse people of, for there is a law that says that if you cause me damage or say something that may damage my well being I can sue you (defamation of character) and these are problems we can all do without. So let’s practice the good neighbor policy and clean our own back yards before we cry about someone else’s.
