A League of Untied Latin American Citizens program, Adelante! America, worked with at-risk youth in 2011 and was led by Mickie Luna, left. The program was sponsored in part by AT&T.

The county’s chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens is celebrating its 25th anniversary at a special celebration this weekend.
The 25th anniversary celebration is set for 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at San Juan Oaks Golf Club just outside Hollister.
The event will include a host of special guests, entertainment and dancing.
Cocktails are at 5 p.m., with opening remarks set for 6 p.m. and dinner with “Trio Borincano.”
There will be dancing to “Sonido Con Sabor” and D.J. Sergio Flores. The Emcee for the night will be Carlos Ramos of Ramos Cordova Strategy Group.
The local LULAC council founder, Mickie Luna, said the organization is particularly proud of the involvement from youths in the group. She said there are now 71 members in the youth council – a foundation for LULAC’s future.
“One of the most important activities that LULAC has been involved with is the fundraising for scholarships for our local kids,” Luna said.
She said the local chapter has had a profound impact on parents, too, and has opened up younger residents’ eyes to voting and the democratic system.
“Because of LULAC, there’s a lot of young adults that will be voting in November,” Luna said.
As for the celebration event itself, she said many people will be attending from other areas as well, including former state Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso.
