A 22-year-old Hollister man was shot in his stomach this evening outside of a Western Court home on the city’s west side, the Hollister Police Department reported.

Capt. Richard Vasquez said he could not release the identity of the man before this story was published and that he’d been flown to a Bay Area hospital. A helicopter landed on Calaveras School grounds, across the street from the crime scene, to take the victim to a hospital.

Vasquez said he did not know the man’s condition.

San Benito County sheriff’s deputies apprehended a man authorities are questioning in relation to the shooting. Officers were holding a vomiting man in the back of a patrol car on Buena Vista Road within 30 minutes of the shooting.

Police suspect it could have been a gang-related shooting, Vasquez said. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m.

It was Hollister’s second shooting in two days.

Just a night before, gunfire missed Hollister police officers and a sheriff’s deputy in a supermarket parking lot on McCray Street. No one was injured in the shooting, and authorities do not have any suspects.
