I was coming out of a traumatic and horrible marriage that I could never imagine ever going through again and it was almost two years since my divorce. My cousin came to visit and decided she wanted me to set up a profile on MySpace, since back then it was pretty popular. She set it up for me, and I had no intention of ever attempting to go online. She noticed because it was four days and I still never tried. On her last day she sat with me and showed me how to – now these were her words – “look for some fine ass dudes.” To make her happy, I did.
I looked for a little while and when I was about to sign off, I saw a picture of a group of guys, but one caught my eye. I thought to myself, “What’s it going to hurt just to take a sneak peek?” When I was going through the pictures, there were tons of guys and he was still in every one.
Finally I saw him alone in photos and let me tell you, his smile was awesome. Since I’d never done this, I decided to comment on a Kobe Bryant picture, since I am hardcore Lakers fan. I thought, if he responds that’s fine, and if he doesn’t, no big deal.
After a few hours I got a message from him and I felt like a teenage girl, giggling and getting nervous about what the message would say. To my surprise, it was a good response. We messaged for maybe a month, then started to talk on the phone for another couple weeks.
I was scared to let anyone in and scared of getting hurt, but willing to let my guard down for just a little bit. So on June 12, 2008 we made plans to meet. I made sure it was in a public place because you never know.
While I was waiting in my truck looking for the Malibu he was going to be in, I was so nervous, wondering if he’s going to like what he sees and was he going to look like the guy in all his pictures. Was his smile going to be the same? And as I’m thinking all this, here comes the Malibu and when I looked up, all I see is his beautiful smile and my heart just melted. Right then I knew in my heart I was going to marry this man and on May 7, 2011, we stood in front of our friends and family, and with nothing but pure love surrounding us, we became husband and wife.
I know God has blessed me with this amazing man who has been through hell and back with me. He’s been my rock through some really hard times, holding my hand, telling me to be strong and never give up and just giving me his unconditional love always.
I am one lucky lady who got a second chance at love and life and I thank God every day for sending Mike to me because he is truly the love of my life.
