On the story “Sheriff Stumps for Prop. 63 Mental Health Money,” it seems like the state and local law enforcement thinks the voters voted for them to use this money at their discretion. We’re not in a police state yet. Mr. Yamamoto hopes to open a drop in center for mental illnesses. Sheriff Hill is doing a fine job as a criminologist. Let Mental Health do the job – $730,000 was voted for mental health, not 1 cent for something else. Society has this moral obligation.

I hope this drop in center does not have a stigma associated with mental health. Hollister and San Benito County had a problem coming to terms with the battered women shelter.
