Police are looking for the driver of a dark sedan or SUV who struck a motorcyclist in a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 156 near Hollister Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
About 8:15pm Sept. 23, a man was riding a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle at an unknown speed east on Highway 156, just east of Union Road. Another vehicle was approaching Union Road on Highway 156, traveling west, also at an unknown speed, according to a press release from the CHP.
For an unknown reason, the Harley driver lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned in the westbound lane of Highway 156, police said. The motorcyclist was ejected during the collision, and landed in the westbound lane of Highway 156.
The motorcyclist, who authorities have not yet identified, was struck by the vehicle that was traveling west, according to police. The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision with the other vehicle, which fled the scene before police and paramedics arrived.
The vehicle that struck the motorcyclist is described as a “dark-colored sedan or SUV,” reads the CHP release. It was last seen traveling westbound on Highway 156.
Authorities do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
