A new theater company in Hollister is set to hold performances for its spring show this weekend at The Vault.
The Fifth Wall Theater Project is a new company in the area. It has an entire season planned, while this weekend’s musical show, “Scapino’s Revenge,” will kick off the new endeavor.
The production is set for 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Vault, 452 San Benito St. It is a collaboration of the Fifth Wall Theater group and Swan Productions, along with the restaurant.
Co-founder Robert Jerome Pagan said the members were inspired to perform productions that aren’t necessarily children’s shows.
“We want to do something new,” Pagan said. “We want to do something for young adults, older adults.”
There are 16 people involved in the “Scapino’s Revenge” production – which is not a dinner theater show, but will include a no-host bar and dancing afterward. Pagan wrote the show that involves a lot of interaction with the audience.
“It’s like an acting circus meets ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’” he said.
Fifth Wall on its website – fifthwalltheaterproject.com – describes the play as a “commedia show like none other seen before.” It calls it a “story about a Commedia Troupe and the Actors who perform in the troupe. Through sidesplitting comedic scenario, a story unfolds of jealousy and anger which reaches a climax that will lead Scapino to a path of comedic revenge and even time travel.”
Pagan said the company is “here to stay” and includes talent from San Francisco to the Monterey area. Fifth Wall has two summer shows planned as well – “Richard III: A Modern Tale,” and a family show, “The Neverending Story.”
The American Association of Community Theatre seems to be excited about the group, too, as the organization agreed to hold its Northern California convention in Hollister sometime in early 2013, he said, bringing many outside theater companies to the area.
