Community blood drive: The Leslie L. Garratt Post 6359 will host a community blood drive Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 58 Monterey Street, in San Juan Bautista. The bloodmobile will be located in the parking lot and blood will be drawn by the staff of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s blood center. Local residents touted for creating peace

At National Night Out Tuesday evening two local residents were honored as peace advocates in San Benito County. Assemblyman Luis Alejo selected Dolores Villalon and Robert Scattini to receive the 2013 California Peace Award along with three other residents or groups from his assembly district.

Hollister residents speak out against water rate hikes

Hollister resident Aurelio Zuniga was among the speakers at Monday’s public hearing over the proposed spike in water rates over the next five years. Unlike other residents, though, he said he was not there to protest the water rates, which would double over a five-year period to pay for a series of improvement projects.
