Snuggles is a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix who is sweet, good with other dogs and likes to play. He has been at the San Martin Animal Shelter since Novemeber 2012 and is a sponsored dog, so he has no adoption fee. Several residents from around the county and representatives from one major employer in San Juan Bautista expressed concern over the direction county fire service could take Tuesday morning as the San Benito County supervisors reviewed proposals from the city of Hollister and Calfire for consolidated services.

San Benito County supervisors will consider formal proposals from Calfire and the City of Hollister Fire Department to provide fire protection to county residents for the 2013-14 year at Tuesday’s meeting. Supervisors reviewed informal proposals March 19 with direction to the two agencies to bring forward official proposals the following week.

Library literacy tutoring adjusts to students’ needs
Sandy Gabe has worked with seven learners in her five years as a tutor with the adult literacy program at the San Benito County Free Library. Monica Rivera has been working with three learners simultaneously, while Rebecca Salinas has one learner for whom she sees a bright future now that he has mastered the English language.
Baler Famefest honors seven
The Baler Education Foundation held its Ninth Annual FameFest on March 23 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year seven people were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
