Hollister district reiterates protocol after Conn. school shooting

Hollister School District officials followed the news last Friday of the Connecticut shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School closely as it was unfolding, with reports of 20 children dead, along with eight adults including shooter Adam Lanza and his mother.

Deadline to install CO monitors approaches

Property owners of apartments and other multi-family rental units have until Dec. 31 to install carbon monoxide alarms in ccunits to comply with a 2010 state law. The Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act required single-family homes with an attached garage or a fossil fuel source to install the alarms by July 1, 2011, but multi-unit property owners were given more time to come into compliance. Alarms are required in all units with attached garages or fossil fuel burning appliances.

Twenty local children to receive bicycles through grant

Twenty local children will be recipients Saturday of bicycles from the sheriff’s office that were obtained through a grant.

Rideshare participants take home loot

In October, the Council of San Benito County Governments, along with two other regional agencies, sponsored a Rideshare Week to encourage residents to find alternatives to work beside driving solo. Two simultaneous fires occurred Dec. 19 in the same medical complex where a November blaze destroyed one of five buildings there, while there were two separate vehicle fires the same morning.

DUI checkpoint planned for this weekend

The Gilroy Police Department’s Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location within the city limits.
