Law enforcement to hold drug take-back event

Three law enforcement agencies will host a prescription drug disposal event at the Target store, 1790 Airline Hwy., in Hollister on Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The San Benito County Sheriff's Office, the Hollister Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration are working in conjunction to put the event together.

Praise given for curfew law changes

The San Benito County Gang Prevention Policy Committee members spent some time at their meeting last Wednesday to thank the three jurisdictions that approved daytime and nighttime curfews that will allow across the board enforcement in Hollister, San Juan Bautista and San Benito County.

HPD, CHP to watch the roads over holiday weekend

While the Hollister Police Department officers have plans for a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in within the Hollister city limits on Sept. 1, between 7 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol in San Benito County and Gilroy will also be out at maximum enforcement for the three-day weekend.

New grade offers line of transition

Michelle McCoun’s 32 students look just like the other kindergarten pupils at R.O. Hardin School on a Tuesday morning during the second week of school. Some are dressed in the khaki and navy blue of the school uniforms. They were still getting the hang of picking up their free breakfast from the cafeteria or getting a snack from home out of their back pack. And they all struggled a bit with forming a straight line and following it back into the classroom.
