Pet detective draws police angst again, this time over rescued dog

More than a week after a small dog named “River” was rescued by a Gilroy man from Uvas Creek with a brick tied to its hind legs, the Gilroy Police Department and Humane Society of the Central Coast – which recently roused concerns from Hollister police as well – and are at odds about how and when the little dog should be adopted.

Police arrest armed man after alleged death threat

On Aug. 16, Hollister Police officers responded to Evelyns Drive on a call of a man allegedly making terrorist threats seen outside the victim’s home. Police arrived and contacted Anthony Fink, 18. He was found in possession of a loaded firearm and arrested on numerous felony charges. Fink was booked into the San Benito County Jail on violations of possessing a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony, carrying a concealed loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and making terrorist threats.

‘Raise the Roof’ fundraiser canceled

The San Benito County Historical Society members decided to cancel the second Annual "Raise the Roof" fundraiser that was set for Aug. 15 due to low ticket sales. The event was intended to raise money to rebuild the Dunneville Dance Hall at the County's Historical Park. It will likely be rescheduled for next Spring.

County board reduces public hours

The San Benito County Board of Supervisors approved additional staff reductions Tuesday that will amount to a savings of $194,840 for the 2012-13 fiscal year while also approving department schedules that will allow some offices to be closed to the public for a portion of the work week.
